Hi! I’m Jennifer Zelovitzky and I am a Perimenopause and Menopause practitioner in Toronto, Canada. I am a wife, a mom (to 2 girls) and a dog mom (to 3 fur babies).
I had a very unusual path to medicine…to say the least! As a child, I was an actress and model, and I continued to work in that industry all through high school and my undergraduate studies. After earning an honours degree in Economics from McMaster University, I juggled careers in finance and acting for a number of years, and then my life took an unexpected turn.
In 2001, my younger sister was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, and I found myself becoming completely immersed in the world of medicine. I would stay up late at night reading every clinical study I could get my hands on, trying to find a potential treatment for Lisa, and it was during this time that my Father In Law told me I had missed my calling and should really consider a career in medicine. Coming from a respected and experienced physician like him, it was hard to ignore…but how on earth would I pull that off?
Step one was to complete an MBA in Healthcare Administration, which I did in 2008. I then brushed up on science courses over the summer, wrote the MCAT and applied to medical school… and I was accepted into McMaster University’s MD program! I then completed my training in Family Medicine and several years later discovered my true passion: Perimenopause and Menopause care. I earned my certification from The Menopause Society and now split my time between clinical practice and sharing information through webinars, live talks and podcasts!
